Fairest: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

When reading stories that are based on fairytales, you usually know who the hero and the villain are, the good guys and the bad guys. Well, in Fairest, we see the background of the Lunar queen, Levana, and how she became the person we know her as. We are witness to the relationships between the royal family, her parents almost disregard for their children, and the bitter relationship between Levana and her elder sister, Channery. We do get to see the human side of Levana, seeing her go through a teenage crush, showing an almost sweet and innocent side to the villain of the Lunar Chronicles. Another thing we get are the people that made appearances in the rest of the Lunar chronicles, like princess Winter and the Clay family; giving us a touch of background to the vivid world of Luna. After reading this, I can tell you that I have a better understanding of Levana's character, why she did what she did, even if what she did was not the smartest of choices.
