Ember in the Ashes; A scholarly read
This, like a few of the other books that I have recently read follow the standard YA novel template, a love triangle with the main female character and two men in her life, a power struggle between two parties of people, and the supernatural or otherworldly playing a role in the background that becomes important. Though, it does differ from the template I have found in books. The 'love triangle' that I mentioned is more of a web between four of the main characters, Elias, Helene, Keenan, and Laia. Parts did remind me of Star Wars, where there is a resistance fighting against the Empire, and the main character's family plays an important role in the resistance. This book is divergent from the norm of YA fiction (I'm not trying to make a pun).
