The Lady of the Rivers;
So, let me preface this by saying that I love history, especially British History. The Wars of the Roses or the Cousins's Wars is something that holds a great interest to me. Not only because this is what is the basis for Game of Thrones (my love for that series is evident), but because it is filled with politics, war, intrigue, female empowerment, and a touch of magic. But, back to the book. The Lady of the Rivers is the historical fiction account of the life of Jacquetta Woodville, the mother of the White Queen (A miniseries on Starz) , Elizabeth Woodville. Her story features historical figures like Henry VI; Margaret of Anjou; Joan of Arc; and Richard, Duke of York. I am so amazed by this work and the research Gregory has undertaken to write the series of novel depicting the Wars of the Roses, like this one. The way that she crafts each piece, I feel like I am at Jacquetta's side, watching Margaret of Anjou and King Henry VI interact and the dire world of politics unfold in front of my eyes. She has made events from almost 600 years ago come to life, and it is wonderful to be on that ride. Everything from the female empowerment of people like Joan of Arc; with her dressing like a man to fight for her king, to Jacquetta and Margaret of Anjou fighting in their own way for freedom.
