*Note* This is my opinion of the book, you don't have to take it for scripture
I've heard of the Dead Author theory, that you have to give yourself the mindset that the author is dead, and no matter their opinion, you should give the book an unbiased chance. This is what I've tried in this book, even with the evidence of the author being homphobic. I'll tell you something, its hard. Being a female, hearing about how evolution has left women without the ability of command and strength. This is a low blow. Women have always been treated less than men, and even in the 'future' we can see this. The boys at Battle School, they are lewd, vulgar, and highly inappropriate. Being someone who had first watched the movie, I had a set of opinions and beliefs of what the book would be like. It is vastly different.
On the other hand, being the person who wants to show both sides, this book is a really good example of imagery. I felt like I was there, in the ship taking Ender to Battle School; feeling the null gravity, where nowhere and everywhere is up and down.
Granted, the imagery does NOT redeem the book. This is one of the few books that I've read that I hate. The use of sexist, slightly homophobic language, and the way that children are molded into soldiers. If you have any support of women, of LGBT+, of children, please don't read this.
